Turkish Coastguard rescues migrants distressed at Lesvos
Turkish Coastguard have rescued 20 migrants distressed at Lesvos, Greece.
A report by AlarmPhone said the distressed people were taken to Türkiye.
Before announcing their rescue, AlarmPhone had raised the alarm about the predicament of the distressed people and sought help for them.
“20 lives at risk near #Lesvos, #Greece! A relative alerted us to their distress,”AlarmPhone said, adding: “We informed @HcoastGuard immediately but when speaking to them on the phone they refused to confirm the reception of the email & hung up on us.”
After the distressed people were rescued, Alarphone provided an update saying: “We received confirmation from the #Turkish Coastguard that they found the group and returned them to #Türkiye. Once again, @Hcoastguard is complicit in illegal and cruel #Pushbacks at sea! We demand an end to these violent and often deadly practices. #StopPushbacks!”
