Thirteen dead, scores drowned after Senegalese boats drifted
Many lives have been reportedly lost after several boats conveying Senegalese migrants drifted to Mauritania. The dead were put at thirteen while the number of people that drowned was put between 90 and 100.
This was disclosed by Alarmphone which condemned EU’s policies encouraging people to embark on such deadly journeys.
Last weekend, Alarmphone said “several boats with between 803-856 Senegalese people drifted to #Mauritania. 13 people died onboard and 90-100 more people are estimated to have drowned. The survivors ran to the town. Many were arrested and are being kept by the police, awaiting deportation.
“Soon after, another boat arrived with 80 survivors and 13 bodies. 6 people in a bad state were transferred to the hospital. We condemn the #EU policies forcing people to embark on these deadly routes. We demand #SafePassages to end the mass dying in the Mediterranean and Atlantic.”
