Applicants kick as Nigeria Immigration announces 112,351 passport uncollected

Many applicants for Nigerian Passport booklets have bombarded the Nigeria Immigration Service’s Twitter space with complaints after the Service announced that 112,351 passport booklets are yet to be collected across the 36 states the federation and the FCT.

The Acting Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mrs Wura-Ola Adepoju, made the disclosure about the uncollected passports during a press briefing at the Service headquarters on Thursday in Abuja.

She said the service had cleared all the 204,332 passport application backlogs after the Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo’s (@BTOofficial) two-week deadline to the Service.

“91,981 passport booklets had been collected so far. There are 112,351 others not yet collected,” she said. The NIS boss called on applicants to go to their respective application centres to collect the travel document.

Reacting to the Comptroller’s remark, a Twitter user, Kingfedex @kingfedex said: The backlogs have not been cleared. My passport has been in Abuja after capturing April 2022. It has not been produced up till now.

Patrické @aimakhu_patrick:I was at your NIS HQ on Wednesday to collect my passport which has been pending production since 2/11/2022 after the backlog clearance news. To my usual surprise, it’s still not produced. The officer said my passport is not yet produced and should check back later.

Uncle Ayodele @AyodeleToyota:It would be nice if those yet to get their passports can get a text message from your office, asking them to come for pickup on a particular date. That’s if the date to be given is earlier than the date previously given to them.

The Festac branch needs to be visited by the ACG, the runs in that branch by the agents and the staff is quite unbearable @ServicomOffice needs to look into this branch of NIS. My passport is still pending because i refuse to go through agents. In fact i wasnt given printout

Shodele Babatunde @shoboy2003: It’s a lie, I was at festac office today alot of people were sent back home like myself. Only those that fast track are were cleared not sarvicom. Why cnt all applications go through same office of process.
