Storm Daniel: My encounter with man who lost wife, young daughters -Georgette Gagnon
DSRSG Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Libya, Georgette Gagnon,
says the UNinLibya is working with partners and authorities to further provide and coordinate urgently needed humanitarian assistance for people in need.
She said this while reliving her encounter with a survivor who lost his wife and daughters to the devastating flood that ravaged Derna City, in Eastern Libya.
Over 5,000 people have reportedly died in the incident.
UNICEF put the number of affected children at 300, 000
“Today I was in #Derna with 10 UN agencies and UNSMIL’s @Bathily_UNSMIL to see the situation first-hand and hear directly from the people affected. We saw haunting scenes of destruction and despair,” Georgette said.
The @UNinLibya, according to her is working with partners and authorities to further provide and coordinate urgently needed humanitarian assistance to people in need.
On her encounter with one of the survivors, she said: “I met a young man in the field hospital injured in the flood who lost his wife and young daughters and whose photos he showed us. Truly heartbreaking.
