Libyan women lament damage in Eastern Libya
Libyan Women’s Platform for Peace, a women’s right organization commited to creating a democratic and more inclusive society in Libya, has lamented the extent of damage caused by Hurricane Daniel in Eastern Libya.
The group accused international media of ignoring the horrific situation in the area.
In a message titled ‘Climate Emergency!’ the group said
“Since most of the international media are ignoring the horrific situation in Libya, we raise our voices to point out the extent of the damage that is taking place in eastern Libya in particular from the high levels of rain, floods, massive destruction.”
The women went on to plead for assistance by calling on everyone to provide assistance with their #humanitarian role! “The level of rain is setting a record in the #Derna, eastern #Libya, with 201 mm, and the amount is increasing. The networks are out of service which makes it hard to communicate.”
Continuing, it said: “We need to facilitate things:
-A field hospital in a dry area, and Al-Abraq may be suitable for that. To work to rescue: (injured people / birth cases / first aid / other patients).
– Clean drinkable water sources.
– Camps to contain affected families.
