MSF-Sea rescues 31 migrants from ‘unseaworthy’ fiberglass boat
Thirty one distressed people comprising children, women, and men have been rescued by MSF Sea.
The survivors were rescued from a fiberglass boat said not to be sea worthy.
“A group of 31 survivors, including women, men, and children, were safely rescued this morning by the MSF team aboard the #GeoBarents. Children make about a third of the group, and more than half of them are unaccompanied.
“The survivors were found on an unseaworthy fiberglass boat in the Libyan SAR region. The group is now safely aboard the #GeoBarents and receiving much needed care from @MSF staff,”MSF-Sea said.
MSF Sea noted that the Italian authorities have assigned #Bari, as the place of safety to disembark the survivors. “However, we ask for a closer place of safety to prevent subjecting them to further adversity and considering anticipated deteriorating weather conditions.”
