Former refugee Sabir Zazai pleads for kindness towards refugees
A former refugee, Sabir Zazai has pleaded that people in positions of power and authority should show kindness towards refugees. Sabir, particularly asked that kind words should be used to address refugees.
Sabir, who stays in Glasgow, Scotland tweeted the message through his handle @sabir_zazai.
He said: “It’s been a tough week for refugees and those standing up for humanity and compassion in the UK. Offering people sanctuary should never be a dividing issue. Our compassion and values of hospitality could unite us in these challenging times.
“Migration is an inseparable part of our history, and offering people sanctuary will continue to be an important value. Like me, many others have sought protection in these islands over generations and have brought with them their skills, talents, flavours and unique gifts.
“As a former refugee, I reach out to everyone; especially those in positions of power, to show kindness and integrity in these debates. Words matter. Some of the worst conflicts around the world started with words.
“We could and should do better in words and practice. And finally, refugees have fled some of the worst and most unimaginable conflicts around the world. They don’t need culture wars in their new adopted homes.”
