Pregnant women, 50 minors, other distressed migrants rescued
Pregnant women and about 50 unaccompanied minors, including several children were among 204 distressed people rescued by Humanity1 on four different operations.
This was disclosed by SOS Humanity (International) in a statement.
The statement reads: “Yesterday the crew of #Humanity1 rescued 204 people from distress at sea in four rescues within a very short time. Among the survivors are several pregnant women and about 50 unaccompanied minors, including several children and babies.
“In the evening 2 survivors had to be evacuated by Italian authorities for medical reasons, along with three relatives. In addition, the crew stabilized two other boats with a total of about 100 people in distress and waited until the coast guard carried out the rescue.
“On board #Humanity1 there are now 199 survivors. For their disembarkation, the port of Ancona has been assigned, 1,400 km from the rescue. >3 days of transit are an unnecessary burden for the rescued people. A closer port of safety must be assigned immediately!”
