19 of 56 people forced back to Tunisia found dead
Nineteen out of 56 people forced back to Tunisia have been found dead.
Only 16 reportedly survived Alarm Phone said. The whereabouts of others, numbering over 20 are still unknown,.
Providing information on events leading to the incident, Alarm Phone said: “We have been informed by relatives that 56 people who left #Sfax in #Tunisia this morning are at severe risk at sea because of bad weather. We urge authorities to search for the boat and rescue them to a safe place!
“We received information that the group has been taken back to #Tunisia. While we are relieved they survived the storm, we fear they are facing further #violence and #deportation.’’
Sunsequetly, Alarm Phone said “We received the information that of the approx 60 people, who were returned to #Tunisia, only 16 people survived and 19 dead bodies were retrieved. Where are the other people? End this continuous murder at sea!”
Despite numerous calls to the Tunisian authorities “we still don’t know what happened to the missing. Solidarity to the loved ones of the dead & the missing. This tragedy was by no means inevitable but the result of the in/actions of the Tunisian coastgards & its European allies.” Alarm Phone said.
