Germany cooperating with Tunisia to deter migration- SOS Humanity (international)
Germany is cooperating with Tunisia to deter migration, SOS Humanity (International) has alleged.
The organsation stated this in a statement shared on its verified X handle, @soshumanity_en.
The statement reads: “Oh dear! Germany is cooperating with Tunisia to deter migration. However, when asked about specific human rights violations in this field, the German government hides behind alleged ignorance, making its answers problematic.
“What do you know about collective deportations and deadly deportations of refugees to the desert – including people who were intercepted at sea? The German Government claims to have ‘no reliable information’ on this.
“In the same paragraph, however, it refers to reports by the UN and international human rights organisations that document precisely such cases. At the same time, the “German government emphasises that it ensures that partners do not violate human rights.”
SOS Humanity continued: “Dear German government: ‘We do not know for certain whether people seeking protection are being abducted’ and ‘We ensure that everything is done in accordance with human rights’ – these statements are contradictory.
“As long as serious human rights violations cannot be transparently investigated and verifiably ruled out, there must be no cooperation with Tunisia in the field of migration and search and rescue. Anything else would mean knowingly accepting human rights violations.”
