As the world marks this year’s International Women’s Day, the International Organisation for Migration, IOM , has celebrated women who are turning mobility into opportunity through remittances, investment.

The UN agency lauded the strength and contribution of women in a post on its LinkedIn page.

The post reads: “On International Women’s Day, we celebrate women who are turning mobility into opportunity through remittances, investment, entrepreneurship and green livelihoods. With the support of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Belgium, IOM is enhancing opportunities for women at home and abroad. In Belgium, IOM worked with diaspora communities to support financial inclusion and informed choices, reaching 167 participants in 2025 through financial inclusion and digital literacy workshops.”

The post noted that women represented 58% of participants, helping strengthen their access to safer and more affordable remittance options. “In Mali, IOM supported stronger livelihoods and local opportunities, with 610 young people receiving vocational training in 2025 in areas such as renewable energy, agroforestry, improved cookstove production and agro-food processing. These skills are helping open the way to greener and more sustainable opportunities.”

Today, the IOM said “we recognize the women in Belgium, Mali and beyond whose leadership, knowledge and determination are helping build stronger and more resilient futures.”
