Three have been reported dead after a shipwreck that occurred around Soutth of Gadvos, Greece.
Alarm Phone said several people were missing, and that 56 survivors rescued by HCoastGuard, and Frontex.
Writing under the heading #Shipwreck south of #Gavdos, #Greece!, Alarm Phone said: “The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, November 11. Three people died and several people remain missing. 56 survivors were rescued by
@HCoastGuard and @Frontex.
“According to different sources, between 9 and 13 people remain missing. Among the missing are two mothers and their children.”
On November 14, Alarm Phone said: “We spoke to the group only once. We could not make contact again, due to technical difficulties. During the call, the people in distress said that they were in urgent need of help but the communication was difficult and we could not find out much more.
“We notified the #Greek coast guard about their location of distress. We sent the e-mail just before midnight on Monday, November 10, immediately after we received the information about the distress of the group.”
On Tuesday, “we called the @HCoastGuard
offices in #Piraeus & #Chania several times from morning until afternoon. They either refused to share information with us or did not pick up the phone. In the afternoon, we were told that a Frontex ship was active in the area.
“Some reports mention that the boat capsized during the rescue operation, which took place ~15 hours after our alert. The people who have lost their lives in the sinking of this boat, could have arrived safely on #Crete if the help would have been sent out on time.”
Mourning those who lost their lives, Alarm Phone said: “We send our condolences to those who lost someone they love in this horrible and forced drowning of so many. We stand in solidarity with people on the move and continue to fight for #FreedomOfMovementForAll.”
