Eighty five people rescued by SOS Humanity disembark safely

Eighty five people rescued by SOS Humanity disembarked safely on December 1, 2025.

SOS Humanity said: “Yesterday evening, the 85 people rescued from distress at sea by our crew on 26 November were finally able to disembark safely after almost a week’s navigation to the designated port in #Ortona. We wish them all the best for their future.”

Once again,  SOS Humanity, said people were denied their right under maritime law to disembark at a nearby place of safety. “Italy’s practice of assigning distant ports also keeps our rescue ship Humanity 1 out of the area of operations, putting lives at risk! More rescue capacities are urgently needed at sea. Support us in converting the sailing vessel Humanity 2 into a rescue ship.”

On November 28, SOS Humanity  said: “Once again, people rescued from distress at sea are being denied their right to disembark quickly at a nearby port. The Italian authorities have assigned us #Ortona as a place of safety – 1,300 km and almost 5 days’ transit from the place of rescue. 1

“The long crossing poses an unnecessary and dangerous strain on the physical and mental health of the survivors – Italy’s practice of assigning distant ports violates international law. We demand the immediate assignment of a closer port!”
