Police clear  facility  used for years as a hideout by undocumented migrants

Police Department in Umm Aranib area of Libya  has cleared  a facility  used for years as a hideout by undocumented migrants, as the Police in Sabratha has raided a human smuggling site and apprehended a group of migrants including women and children readying for boat crossing.

According to Migrant Rescue Watch, “#Libya 2 Umm al-Aranib Police Dept. cleared a site belonging to Water and Sanitation Company in Hamira area (water reservoir). The facility was used for years as a hideout by undocumented migrants.

Following police clearing operation the site was handed over to the sanitation company.

 “Police in Sabratha raided a human smuggling site and apprehended a group of #migrants incl. women and children readying for boat crossing. During op. police also seized a boat being prepared for the crossing. All transferred to DCIM custody in Tripoli.”

Migrant Rescue Watch added that Ajdabiya Police Dept. dismantled a multinational criminal gang involvement in harboring illegal immigrants, fraud, extortion, human trafficking and smuggling. Following an escape of one of the #migrants held captive and received information, “the police raided two locations and arrested 1 Egyptian national and freed a total of 44 Egyptian #migrants who were held captive, subjected to physical abuse and extortion.” 

The arrested suspect during interrogation revealed his Libyan and Egyptian accomplices as well as the gang leader, a Libyan national sentenced to death in absentia. The case was referred to public prosecutor.
