Thirty eight people rescued with Sea Watch’s Aurora disembarked in Trapani
Thirty people rescued with Sea Watch’s Aurora on Tuesday have disembarked in Trapani, Italy.
A statement by Sea-Watch International said the 38 people disembarked in Trapani today (August 13).
“We rescued them with our Aurora on Tuesday. But instead of being assigned the closest port, Lampedusa, we were forced to sail nearly four times as far. Political harassment at its best. [1/4]
“The political harassment against civil sea rescue — blocking our ships & planes & assigning distant ports — costs human lives every single day. While one woman fought for her unborn baby’s life, another mother lost her child due to Europe’s deliberate border violence.
“We are angry. Our thoughts are with the dead, missing & survivors. At the same time, we’re relieved the 38 on Aurora reached shore safely — we wish them strength in their ongoing fight. The simultaneity of events weighs heavily. In solidarity with all people on the move.”
