People arriving on the Greek islands increased by 62.2% in June

A recent data by Aegean Boat Report says people who arrived on the Greek islands in June  increased by 62.2% compared to May, boats arriving  put at 53.7%.

Aegean Boat Report said: “In June we have registered 63 boats arriving on the Greek islands, Lesvos 12 boats(19%), Chios 9(14%), Kos 5(8%), Samos 4(6%), the rest, 33 boats (53%), was scattered across the Aegean, mostly on the smaller islands.

“This month we have registered 19 pushbacks performed by Greek authorities, involving 535 men, women and children who wanted to apply for asylum in Greece. Greek pushbacks are still being covered up by Turkish authorities, boats pushed back are regularly camouflaged as “engine failure” in the Turkish reports.”

Since January 2020, Aegean Boat Report  said it registered 3.415 pushback cases in the Aegean Sea, performed by the Hellenic coast guard, involving 93.840 men, women and children. “1.103 of these cases was performed by using rescue equipment/life rafts, 29.312 people was left drifting in 1.692 life rafts in the Aegean Sea.

No investigation has ever been launched by the European Parliament in relation to these violations.”
