39 people feared dead as fishermen rescue survivor near Umm Aqheiqeh beach
Thirty nine people have been feared dead in a shipwreck in Libya.
A researcher, Jihed made the revelation on his X handle.
Writing on Sunday under the heading ‘#Libya Another invisible shipwreck’
Jihed said: “Yesterday a Sudanese survivor was found by fishermen near Umm Aqheiqeh beach,35 km west of #Tobruk.He said their boat carried 40 people before it capsized he alone survived.
Today,a body washed ashore. Searches for others continue.”
On Monday, Jihed posted: “In #Tobruk,Following Yesterday’s Shipwreck
Three bodies have now been found on the beach likely belonging to the victims of the boat wreck.”
He also announced that “This morning in #Libya, Tarek Ibn Ziyad militias intercepted 93 people, #Sudanese and #Egyptian nationals west of Tobruk. All were transferred to a military base in the city.Europe’s border regime funds this cycle of abuse.”
To avoid causing trauma for the victims’ relations, Jihed, said “I will not share pictures to preserve dignity and avoid causing panic to #families. If you’re looking for someone or need info, please PM. I can share photos privately.”
