70 people fleeing Libya distressed in North Tobruk
Seventy people fleeing Libya are in distress along north of Tobruk.
Alarm Phone, in a post titled ‘’70 people in distress north of #Tobruk’’, said the people “need rescue now.”
“We are in contact with this group who fled from #Libya,” Alarm Phone said, adding: “They report lots of water in their boat and are afraid to shipwreck. We alerted authorities and hope they will launch a SAR operation without delay, as the weather is deteriorating!”
Alarm Phone hinted that the last time “we spoke to the group, still no rescue had arrived. They told us that they were struggling with the high waves. We contacted several merchant vessels but so far no ship assisted the group. Also the authorities are not providing any assistance. They need rescue now!”
Two hours after the above posts, Alarm Phone made another post to give update on the development. “We spoke to the
@HCoastGuard who told us that both this group and the group of ~53 people are now next to the merchant vessel BLUE BIRD, whose crew is ready to assist. We reminded @HCoastGuard
that it is their responsibility to coordinate the rescue to a safe harbour!”
