A total of 125 people have been rescued by SOS Humanity 1.

The distressed people according to SOS Humanity  (International) distress were on the overcrowded double-decker wooden boat with no lifesaving equipment.

The post reads: “In a difficult rescue in international waters, the crew of our rescue ship #Humanity1 rescued 125 people yesterday evening. Italian authorities have assigned the over 1,500 km away distant port of #Ravenna, denying the survivors an immediate disembarkation.

“The people in distress had no lifesaving equipment on the overcrowded, double-decker wooden boat in distress, reported by Alarm Phone. The boat was dangerously listing to the side and very unstable when the rescue took place. High waves made the rescue even more difficult.”

The survivors according to SOS Humanity (International) are now being cared for “by the crew on board our rescue ship. They are very exhausted and weak after hours at sea in harsh weather conditions. We are urging the Italian authorities to assign a closer port immediately!”

SOS  Humanity 1’s feat elated Alarm Phone which took to its X  handle to celebrate the rescue operation. “Rescued!! Yesterday, Alarm Phone was alerted to a large wooden boat in distress, carrying 125 people on board. We alerted authorities and the #civilfleet. Thankfully, SOS HUMANITY reacted to their distress and carried out a successful rescue operation!”
