No fewer than 52  people were killed when the Tunisian National Guard rammed their boat.

Sea-Watch International, an organization that saves lives in the Mediterranean Sea disclosed this on its X handle.

It said “On Nov 7-8, 52 people were killed as the Tunisian National Guard rammed their boat. A fisherman rescued 23 survivors, later forced to hand them over. They were taken to Sfax, then abandoned in the desert or handed to Libyan traffickers, facing torture, imprisonment, and violence.”

Sea-Watch emphasized that the targeted expansion of Tunisia’s search and rescue zone and its National Guard, supported by the EU, is fuelling the violence and will lead to even more deaths and abductions.”

Sea-Watch also today, November 23, announced that the crew of the Sea-Watch 5 rescued 49 people from distress at sea last night. “Their rubber dinghy had already lost large amounts of air. The engine had stopped. Italian authorities have assigned us the port of Ravenna, over 1600 kilometres away

This means we lose a lot of time and cannot be operational.

“Fortress Europe has perfidious methods. Nevertheless, we are happy and relieved about the rescue. Resistance is possible.”
