Women for Refugee Women, a UK based organization has scored newly elected  leader of the Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, low on refugee rights issues.

The organization which  supports women seeking safety in the UK to rebuild their lives on their own terms, described  Badenoch’s track record in refugee rights  as concerning, and hostile.

In post titled  ‘Kemi Badenoch is the new leader of the Conservative Party’  Women for Refugee Women asked “What is her track record on refugee rights? Spoiler: it’s not good.

“From claiming that ‘not all cultures are valid’ to suggesting that Government officials ‘should not want to look after refugees’, her track record is:

❌   Concerning, and

❌   hostile.

Inflammatory and dangerous statements.

Badenoch stated that not all cultures are ‘equally valid’ – suggesting that people seeking safety in the UK have values that are incompatible with our communities. This is extremely disturbing.

Badenoch responded to fears that the Rwanda plan is unsafe for people seeking safety as a ‘nonsensical myth’.

She claimed that Rwanda must be safe because  ‘people go on holiday there. I know somebody who is having a very lovely gap year there.’

BUT there is a huge difference between having the privilege to holiday to a country and being forcibly deported thousands of miles away to a country you have no ties to.

·

Crackdown on ‘sympathetic’ civil servants.

Badenoch has suggested a crackdown on civil servants seen to be sympathetic towards people seeking safety, stating that Government officials ‘should not want to look after refugees.’

But we are a compassionate country.

We have always offered sanctuary to those in need.

Every woman, regardless of who she is or how she arrived here, deserves to live in safety and be treated with dignity.

Becoming leader of the Conservative Party – the official opposition – is a huge responsibility.

We urge Badenoch to lead with humility, respect, and compassion for her fellow human beings.

Failure to do so will continue to stoke hatred and legitimise far-right views about people seeking safety in our communities.

Now is an opportunity for change.

We hope Badenoch takes it.
