Fifty nine pushbacks performed by Greek coast guard in September
Fifty nine pushbacks were reportedly performed by the Greek coast guard in September.
Aegean Boat Report disclosed this in a statement.
It said: “In September we have registered 59 pushbacks performed by the Greek coast guard, where 1.569 people have been illegally and violently denied their right to apply for asylum in Greece.
“Men, women and children were removed from Greek territory waters, left helplessly drifting in fragile rubber boats and life rafts in the middle of the sea by Greek authorities.”
Aegean Boat Report noted that 460 of these victims were small defenseless children.
“Over 500 people were forced into 29 life rafts and left drifting in the Aegean Sea in September by the Greek coast guard.
“150 of them were small children.
“What kind of human would force small children into life rafts, and leave them helplessly drifting at sea? And who would willingly support such atrocities?”
As long as Greek authorities are supported and funded by Frontex and the European Commission, Aegean Boat Report said “these illegal activities will continue, and more lives will be unnecessarily lost at other borders.
“These pushbacks, where men, women and small children, are left helplessly drifting at sea, is today’s EU policy in practice.
The European Commission, the “Guardian of the Treaties”, led by Ursula von der Leyen, is deliberately failing to protect vulnerable people seeking protection at our doorstep.”
