People in the UK are more tolerant of migrants than in other countries, a series of tweets by by Migration Observatory said.
” In 2022 they were among the least reluctant to have them (migrants) as neighbours.
“Yet discrimination affects some migrants in their daily lives, as discussed in our updated briefing.
“Around 16% of migrants in Britain described themselves as members of a group that faced discrimination in 2018-20.
However, it said ethnic minorities born in the UK were roughly twice as likely to perceive discrimination as the foreign-born
“Compared to other European states, migrants in Britain were somewhat less likely to perceive discrimination, particularly those born outside the EU.
“Minorities of migrants in the UK say they felt unsafe (19%), were insulted (15%), or avoided places (10%) because of their background (5/6)
“British employers discriminate against job applicants based on their ethnicity – job applicants with Pakistani or Nigerian names get fewer interviews than otherwise identical candidates with White British names.
