178 survivors disembark at Bari
A total of 178 survivors in rescue operations carried out by Humanity 1 have disembarked at Bari.
A statement by SOS Humanity about the disembartion said: “All 178 survivors on board the Humanity 1 have now been safely disembarked in the Italian port of #Bari. The first to disembark were families, followed by women, unaccompanied minors, and finally adult men. We wish them all the best in their onward journey!
“Instead of assigning a closer port, for example in Sicily, Italian authorities sent Humanity 1 to the unnecessarily distant port of Bari. Delaying the disembarkation of those rescued from distress at sea in an acute humanitarian situation violates their fundamental rights.”
Calling for support for future rescue operations, SOS Humanity said: “As our 13th rescue mission nears completion, you can help power our next one. With €50, you can supply one of our speedboats with one hour’s worth of fuel to bring survivors safely on board Humanity 1.”
