EU external borders increasingly becoming lawless areas- Seebrücke International
Seebrücke International has expressed worries about EU external borders which it said is increasingly becoming lawless areas.
With the EU external borders, Seebrücke International said the protection of fleeing people cannot be guaranteed there.
Seebrücke is an international movement that wants safe passages and an end of the criminalisation of civil sea rescue.
It said: “Europe is moving ever further to the right. Nationalists and right-wing parties are on the rise across Europe, which will also be shown in the European elections on 9 June.
In the discourse surrounding the so-called “shift to the right”, some acute issues, such as the implementation of the CEAS tightening measures, are getting lost.
With the CEAS tightening, the right to asylum was practically abolished and racism was institutionalised more strongly at the same time.”
In concrete terms, Seebrücke International said this means possible detention camps at the European (external) borders for all those seeking protection, regardless of age and gender.
“The individual examination of the reason for fleeing will be cancelled. Deportation to non-safe third countries is made possible.
“As a result of this approach, even more people will become victims of “legal” pushbacks and will have to take ever more dangerous flight routes – because people will continue to flee.”
However, the NGO said the trend towards increasingly restrictive EU asylum and migration policies is already evident in the adoption of common regulations such as EURODAC or the Reception and Qualification Directives. “These regulate the control, reception, treatment and status of refugees. In addition, the border agency Frontex is being given more and more powers and funding by the EU, even though numerous NGOs have repeatedly and demonstrably held it responsible for massive human rights violations.
“EU (external) borders are increasingly becoming lawless areas. The protection of fleeing people cannot be guaranteed there.”
As Seebrücke, it said: “We will not accept that Europe and Germany continue to jeopardise human lives. We will remain loud! We must and will continue to take to the streets. We will continue to fight loudly against sealing off borders and in favour of an asylum and migration policy based on solidarity.
“Let’s unite our struggles and take to the streets together! Stay loud for freedom of movement and a humane asylum and migration policy and join the movement. Consistent deportation ban and safe passage now!”
