The crew of Humanity 1 has rescued distressed people including babies and pregnant women on the sea.

Announcing the rescue operation, SOS Humanity International said: “The crew of Humanity 1 have rescued a total of 100 people, including pregnant women and babies, from 2 overcrowded boats in distress in the #Mediterranean. The 1st rescue was of a rubber boat with 82 people on board, the 2nd a fibreglass boat with 18 people.

“Both rescues occurred in international waters. The engines of the boats were not running, and no life-saving equipment was on board. Every lifejacket that we distribute to survivors costs €35.”

Once again, SOS Humanity International said Italian authorities have assigned an unnecessarily distant port for the #disembarkation of survivors. “In this case, we will have to sail to #Livorno, around 1,170 km from the location of the first rescue, which will take 3 days.”
