Seebrücke International, an NGO that  wants safe passages and an end of the criminalisation of civil sea rescue has lauded Der Spiegel, ARD and Lighthouse Reports investigation on how Tunisia is maltreating black Africans.

Commending the investigative report, Seebrücke International said: “In extensive investigative research, Der Spiegel, ARD and Lighthouse Reports, among others, have uncovered that Europe is financially and directly involved in dumping Black people in the desert or in remote areas.

“This concerns both refugees and people who already had their centre of life in Tunisia, Mauritania and Morocco. They were loaded onto buses simply because of the colour of their skin and abandoned in the middle of nowhere so that they would not reach Europe.

“They were abandoned without food or water, and some were even sold to smugglers by the authorities. Not only does Europe know about this – the EU supports this with money, vehicles, equipment and personnel.

“Even if the EU denies its guilt, videos, confidential documents and reports from survivors have now been able to prove what is really happening.”

Seebrücke International said the report reveals the extent of the European policy of sealing off borders, which will not hold back from anything. “Human rights are being trampled underfoot and the deaths of black people are being accepted. We are furious!”
