The European Union, EU, will partly fund the reinforcement of the Polish-Belarusian border erected in 2022.

The project is estimated to cost about €350million.

Seebrüecke International disclosed this while demanding an end to the European policy of sealing off borders.

“Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced that the border fence on the Polish-Belarusian border will be reinforced,” Seebrüecke International said.

To this end, it said “the 5.5 metre-high fence erected in 2022 is to be reinforced with modern fortifications and electronic devices.

“The construction of an electronic barrier along the water border is to begin next year.Part of the funding will come from the European Union, as the border is an external EU border. This further sealing off will cost around 350 million euros.”

Seebrüecke International noted that people are already regularly “dying at this border while fleeing. Further sealing off the border will not protect human lives, but will further jeopardise them and force people on the move onto increasingly dangerous routes.

“We do not have to accept the brutality of the borders! We demand safe passage, freedom of movement for all people and an end to the European policy of sealing off borders! We will continue to fight until every piece of border fence is history!”
