Libyan Red Crescent, police recover migrants’ bodies washed ashore

Libyan Red Crescent and the police have recovered seven migrants’ bodies washed ashore.

Migrant Rescue Watch said the bodies were recovered in Mellitah area.

It said: “Libyan Red Crescent (Sabratha Branch) recovered jointly with police 7 #migrant bodies washed ashore in Mellitah area. The bodies were transferred to morgue for completion of procedures.”

In another development, Migrant Rescue Watch said GA Special Task Force arrested in Ras Ajdir a Libyan national who attempted to smuggle 8 African #migrants across the border from Libya to Tunisia. “All transferred to DCIM custody in Al-Assah,” it said, adding: “Al-Faydiyah Police Department arrested a Libyan driver for smuggling illegal aliens for labour purposes. The accused was accompanied by a female of Nigerian nationality who entered the country illegally.”

During search of the vehicle, it said “police also discovered large quantities of medicine of unknown provenance. Both remain in custody pending legal action.”
