Refugees In Libya, an organization that supports refugees has called on Tunisia to respect conventions it’s signatory to.

Refugees In Libya made the call while lamenting the plight of evicted group of 33 people it has been following since May 3rd.

It said: “The evicted group of 33 people we have been following since the 3rd of May while they trekked from the Algerian border region towards Tunis reports that they have been stopped by the National Guards, fingerprinted and are told nothing else but detained.

“On 6 May, on their behalf we  filed a complaint to the @UNHumanRights Committee which accepted our request for urgent measures.

These people shouldn’t be detained or intimidate.

The UN Human Rights Committee in their communication wrote to the state party as read:

“Interim measures

Under rule 94 of the Committee’s rules of procedure, the State party was requested (1) to allow humanitarian assistance to be provided to the authors of the communication; 2) to provide them with the necessary assistance, including medical assistance, taking into account the fact that there are children in the group; 3) not to expel the authors while their cases are being examined by the Committee; and 4) to prevent any threats, acts of violence or reprisals to which they may be exposed as a result of submitting this request to the Committee.”

Refugees In Libya said it has documented every incident and “we call on the Tunisian authorities to respect the request made by the committee and other conventions that Tunisia is signatory to. The women, men and children, many of whom are in vulnerable conditions, must be protected and provided with immediate medical care as well as shelter.”
