Activists today, May 9, 2024, in Tunisia held a protest against unfair EU policies.

A Non Governmental Organization, Refugees In Libya disclosed this on its X handle.

It said: “This morning, a group of Tunisian civil society activists staged a demonstration outside the EU headquarters in Tunis in response to the wave of arrests targeting Tunisian associationism and international organizations involved in migration.

“As activists denounce, the repression is the result of European, especially Italian, policies supporting the Tunisian government in closing the Mediterranean route. The consequences are borne by thousands of men, women, and children who find themselves stranded, rejected, deported into the desert, attacked at sea by the coast guard, and marginalized in society.”

A researcher who goes by the name Jihed on X handle yesterday called on
activists to join the protest against what it described as unfair EU policies in Tunisia.

His post read: “Calling all activists and concerned Tunisian citizens!
Join us for a protest at the EU mission HQ in Tunis📍on May 9th at 10 AM. Stand against the unfair EU policies turning Tunisia into a detention center for people on the move and sponsorsing violations of human rights.

“#Tunisian civil society will always resist this externalization and colonialism.
Arrests of our comrades won’t silence us.
Let’s demand safe passage justice for all people on the move.
Stop European daily border violence”
