Greek authorities drop charges against 35 humanitarian aid workers
The Greek authorities have dropped their charges against 35 humanitarian aid workers accused of espionage.
Seebrücke International, a German Non- Governmental Organisation that wants safe passages and an end of the criminalisation of civil sea rescue made this known in a post.
“Solidarity Wins!,” Seebrücke International said at the beginning of the post.
“Greek authorities have dropped their charges against 35 humanitarian aid workers due to a lack of evidence. The aid workers were accused of espionage, aiding and abetting illegal entry and forming a criminal organization. #SolidarityWins
“It is now clear from the court documents that these accusations are unfounded! The fact that these investigations took place at all and that activists were even arrested is a scandal! Solidarity was criminalized here too.”
Seebrücke International added that the arbitrary opening of criminal proceedings is intended to deter more people from helping people seeking protection.
“The deaths of people on the move are being accepted and other people seeking protection are to be deterred in this way so that they do not set out on the move in the first place. We will not be intimidated! Human rights are non-negotiable! Defend Solidarity!”
