Kidnappings following interceptions by Tunisian Coastguard – Louise Michel
Kidnappings are following interceptions by the Tunisian Coastguard, LouiseMichel an international NGO that combines sea rescue with the principles of feminism anti-racism and anti-facism has alleged.
It claimed that there are reports about kidnapping by criminal gangs at the Tunisian ports following interceptions by the Tunisian Garde National (TGN).
Yesterday, Louise Michel said “we spoke about how invisible shipwrecks are on the rise, caused by poor-quality iron boats departing from Tunisia. Those who survive and are intercepted by the TGN are expulsed to desert areas on the Libyan and Algerian border.
“Sometimes, when transfer buses aren’t available, they are left at #Sfax port by the TGN. There are increasing reports from local media and testimonials from survivors, of kidnappings of people on the move by criminal gangs, with ransoms being demanded for their release.”
Whilst Italy strengthens their cooperation with Tunisia, the organization said “we see just how unsafe a place it is for people on the move. We stand against Europe’s deal with #Tunisia and call for #EU money to stop financing these human rights violations.
