Tunisian Garde National’s raids are spiking shipwrecks and deaths, LouiseMichel has alleged.

The international NGO said many bodies have recently been recovered by the Tunisian Coast Guard with uncountable number of still missing.

It said: “Increasing invisible shipwrecks from Tunisia.
Tragically, in these last few months, there has been an increase in lives lost following shipwrecks of badly constructed iron boats departing from Tunisia.

“So far in this month alone, numerous bodies are known to have been recovered by the Tunisian coastguard, with many more people missing.”

The rise of shipwrecks, according to LouiseMichel is linked to increasing raids by the Tunisian Garde National, meaning boat-building factories are rushing to build between raids, resulting in poorer quality of boats which break up soon into the journey to seek a safe life in Europe.

“We stand in solidarity with people on the move & condemn this loss of life. We call for safe & legal passage for all, so no one has to cross the dangerous Mediterranean Sea in unseaworthy boats.
