France, Germany mobilize $2.1b to support Sudan
France, Germany and the EU have mobilized $2.1b in support of Sudan.
International Organization for Migration, IOM, Chief Amy Pope disclosed this as she departed France.
She said: ” As I leave Paris today, I am thankful to France, Germany, the EU and the international community who stood up to mobilize USD 2.1 billion in support of Sudan and its neighbours.
This crucial funding will be life-saving. But we still need peace.”
Sudan now world’s largest internal displacement crisis -IOMchief
Amy Pope, had earlier described Sudan as the world’s largest internal displacement crisis.
Amy Pope disclosed this in a post on her official X handle @IOMChief.
The post reads: “Sudan is now the world’s largest internal displacement crisis.
“Two million people have fled to neighbouring countries.
“We join the humanitarian community to call for an end to the war and suffering.”
Speaking in the same vein, IOM- UN Migration said: “After 1 year of conflict, #Sudan continues to be the largest humanitarian crisis in the world.
The people of Sudan are fighting for survival every day with lack of food, water, shelter and other basic needs. We must unite and stand #WithSudan!”
Reacting to Amy Pope’s post, the organization said: “Every day 20,000 people are displaced due to the crisis in Sudan.
“We must scale up our humanitarian assistance and ensure that aid reaches everyone in need, including the most remote areas.”
The situation in Sudan also caught the attention of MSF Sea:
The organization on 8t X handle said: “The conflict ravaging #Sudan is unspeakable. We find ourselves escaping one war zone only to enter another.
“We’re in dire need of help and wish for our plight to be known. The future remains uncertain, especially for our children”, says Mohammed Abakar, displaced in South Sudan.”
