Migration: LouiseMichel laments extreme climate situation in Sub- Saharan Africa
LouiseMichel, an international NGO that combines sea rescue with the principles of feminism anti-racism and anti-facism has decried the extreme climate situation in Sub Saharan Africa that makes people to be on the move.
Louise Michel in a post titled ‘Climate crisis in sub-Saharan countries’ called for freedom of movement for all.
The post reads: ‘In addition to political conflicts, the climate here is extreme. Droughts and floods follow one another. The desert is constantly expanding as the climate crisis further exacerbates the situation.
“In Somalia alone, the extreme drought in 21/22 led to up to 1million people suffering from hunger and around 1 million people being displaced. As fleeing is very expensive and stressful, people who leave their homeland are predominantly young and well-educated, with an income.
“People who live very precariously on the poverty line usually remain in a spiral of poverty, unable to leave.
“Migration is part of nature and it has been, and always will be, part of humanity.
“We stand in solidarity with all people on the move, those affected by #war, #repression, #poverty and the #climatecrisis. We demand human rights for all. Freedom of movement for all! Safe and legal passage, now!”
