Racist attacks on Kurds in Belgium has intensified, a statement by Seebrüecke International says.

The attacks left many seriously injured, the statement said.

According to the Seebrüecke International statement: “There was an increase in violent racist attacks on Kurds in Belgium at the weekend. Turkish nationalists attacked people in several Belgian municipalities who were travelling to celebrate the Kurdish New Year festival #Newroz.

“Several people were injured, some of them seriously. An arson attack was also only prevented by police intervention.

“The perpetrators can be attributed to the extreme right-wing and nationalist Turkish terror movement “Grey Wolves”, which can be recognised by their hand sign, the “wolf salute”, among other things.

“Although the “Grey Wolves” are also one of the largest extreme right-wing groups in Germany, there is little publicity or prevention work in view of the threat they pose to Kurds and other minorities.

For years, there have been calls for the organisation and its symbols to be banned.

“Political scientist Dastan Jasim demands:
“Strict action is needed against all Turkish right-wingers, including those who hide behind religion, as well as an end to the criminalisation of Kurds.”
