Seebrüecke International, a German NGO has hailed an investigative report by derspiegel, lemondefr, and LHreports which exposed European authorities’ cruelty.

A statement by Seebrüecke International on the report reads: “The number of people fleeing across the English Channel towards the UK has continued to rise since 2018. At that time, the authorities began to tighten controls on the French port of #Calais and the Eurotunnel between France and the UK.

“In 2024 alone, over 4,000 people fled across the English Channel. France is now receiving money from the UK to “stop boats”.

“In a joint investigation with @derspiegel and @lemondefr, among others, @LHreports uncovered what this flow of money leads to: it leads to brutal behaviour and life-threatening manoeuvres by the French police during pullbacks.

“Among other things, the French police rammed a rubber dinghy at high speed, caused waves that flooded a dinghy by circling around it and punctured rubber dinghies on the water, forcing people to swim ashore.

“It is not comprehendable that European authorities are displaying such inhumane behaviour. We demand consequences! It is unacceptable for European authorities to deliberately endanger human lives!

“Whether in the Mediterranean or in Calais – we finally need safe passage and freedom of movement for all people!”
