Resqship, a German NGO  operating monitoring missions in the central Mediterranean has bemoaned the worsening situation on the sea.

While decrying the rising cases of death, Resqship said its thought are with the victims, their families and  the survivors.

“The situation at sea has worsened again in recent weeks,”Resqship said.

In addition to the deaths on board the #SeaWatch5 and #SeaEye4, it said: “we received the news that 60 people have drowned in the central Mediterranean in recent days. 25 survivors were rescued by the crew of the #OceanViking.

“The boat was at sea for at least a week. One young man died yesterday after being evacuated to shore. Meanwhile the IT government is harassing the civil fleet with blockades & distant ports. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and the survivors. Rest in power.”
