Over 100 migrants were pushedback  by the Libyan Coastguards on international waters, MSF said in a statement.

MSF said Geo Barents was performing a rescue in international waters when the vessel LCG 602, from Libyan Coastguards, interfered putting in danger the people and blocking the rescue operation.

“Last night, #GeoBarents witnessed a pushback in Maltese Search and Rescue Region: Over 100 people were intercepted by the Libyan Coastguards in international waters, 40nm from #Lampedusa.

“Despite the predictable cycle of violence that awaits them once they arrive in #Libya, the Maltese authorities coordinated the push-back, according to the LCG patrol vessel.

We condemn this inhumane move by Maltese authorities that, together with 2 @Frontex  planes, monitored them and coordinated this interception. They are responsible for the faith of these people in #Libya.”
