Seebrüecke International has decried the condition of Hermsdorf refugee centre in eastern Thuringia.

The German organization said the situation in the center is unbearable and inhumane.
It said: “The Hermsdorf refugee centre in eastern Thuringia is currently home to 520 people. The building – an old warehouse – is not designed or equipped for residential purposes. Nevertheless, some of the people are housed there for over 5 months.

“Essential standards such as access to doctors, counselling on the asylum procedure, privacy and language courses are not provided in Hermsdorf.
The situation is unbearable and inhumane.

“The camp residents have already held several self-organised demonstrations and protests to draw attention to their situation. It has now been announced that the camp is to remain open for another 2 years.”

Calling on the relevant authorities to look into the deplorable condition of the center, Seebrüecke International said: “We demand that these degrading conditions are brought to an end and that the people affected are housed in humane conditions!
