SOS Humanity has called for an independent investigation into the death and the life-threatening actions of the Libyan Coast Guard.
in a statement decrying the actions of the Libyan Coast Guard, SOS Humanity said: “When 77 survivors disembarked safely from Humanity 1 last night in #Crotone, Italy, we could hardly believe the news. The Humanity 1 has again been detained by the Italian authorities, based on false accusations!
“Last Saturday, the so-called #Libyan Coast Guard violently disrupted an ongoing rescue operation by Humanity 1 and fired close to people who were in the water. They risked the lives of both survivors and our crew. According to survivors, at least one person drowned.
