24 dead, 19 alive as boat carrying 300 migrants capsizes
Twenty four persons have been found dead after a boat carrying 300 migrants capsized in the northern region of Senegal.
Hundreds of the passengers are still missing while nineteen migrants came ashore unscathed.
Announcing the incident on its X handle, AlarmPhone said: “Yesterday, a boat carrying more than 300 people from #Joal capsized off the coast of Saint-Louis in northern #Senegal. According to some sources, 24 bodies have been recovered. 19 survivors made it to shore and hundreds are missing.”
This latest disaster, AlarmPhone said shows once again the dangers of “this route that people face in search of a better life. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and with the survivors. #FreedomOfMovement!”
