Brindisi court suspends detention imposed on OceanViking
A civil court in Brindisi has vacated the detention imposed on the civilian rescue ship #OceanViking.
The detention was imposed on February 9.
Announcing the decision, Seebrüecke International said: “On Tuesday, the Civil Court of Brindisi issued a ruling suspending the effectiveness of the detention imposed on the civilian rescue ship #OceanViking on 9 February. The court approved the appeal that had been submitted.
“The rescue operations were pursuit of “objectives of unquestionable value in accordance with constitutional values and international law”. The court is therefore right! Civilian sea rescue must not be restricted!
“The hearing on the merits of the arrest will be held by the same court on 14 March. The Piantedosi Law, on the basis of which these determinations were made, has now gone from decree to law about a year ago – on 24 February 2023.
“We hope that there will finally be justice for civilian sea rescue and that the contradiction with international law and the constitution will lead to the Piantedosi Law being revoked. The detention of ships and the allocation of distant ports must come to an end! Fight For Solidarity, Fight Fortress Europe!”
