Italy assigns Taranto as safety port to Humanity1
The Italian authorities have assigned Taranto as a port of safety to Humanity1.
SOS Humanity (international) disclosed this while providing information about its rescue operations.
The organization said: “The struggle for a closer port of safety to avoid having to sail into a storm with 126 rescued people on board has come to an end! It took numerous requests. Now, the Italian authorities have finally assigned #Taranto as a port of safety to the #Humanity1.
“Not a moment too soon! The Humanity 1 had already had to seek shelter near the coast to escape the approaching storm, which would have jeopardised the well-being of the survivors onboard, most of whom are accommodated on deck.
“The #Humanity1 has now set course and will reach Taranto tomorrow. Disembarking rescued people at a place of safety close to the rescue site, as required by maritime law, should be a common practice!”
