43 people land in Palios, Lesvos Northeast

Forty three people have reportedly landed in Palios, Lesvos Northeast.

A statement by Aegean Boat Report said they landed at about 04.30 am on a boat.

After arriving, Aegean Boat Report said the passengers fled to the woods in the surrounding area to hide from Greek authorities, afraid of what would happen to them if found.

“At first light they contacted Aegean Boat Report for assistance, they wanted to be taken to the nearest camp, and apply for international protection.

“The group split up in two, one group stayed in the area, while the other moved towards the village of Mantamados.

“Both groups provided pictures, videos and location data, there was no doubt that they were on Lesvos.”

Continuing, Aegean Boat Report said: “We provided them with necessary information so that they themselves could reach out to local organizations and authorities.

“In addition, after agreeing with the people involved, we informed local authorities and organizations on Lesvos, to try to make sure that people were located within reasonable time due to the cold weather in the area.”

Unfortunately, it said: “we received no reply from local and international organizations on the island, nor any information that they would try to locate the people we had provided them with information about.

Both groups were later confirmed found and taken to the local Registration and identification centers.

“Number of people in the group that contacted us have not been officially confirmed.Kudos to all of those who, on a daily basis, do their utmost to fend for the rights of people at our borders!”
