Human trafficking data: NAPTIP partners Police
Nigeria’s anti- human trafficking agency, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) is partnering with the Nigeria Police Force to tap from the benefits of human trafficking data.
The Director-General of NAPTIP, Fatima Waziri-Azi says agency has successfully rescued and received over 22,000 victims since its inception.
The agency in its Director-General Performance Year Two Report said that effectively combating a complex transnational crime like human trafficking necessitated extensive collaboration, hence data and information sharing among stakeholders were crucial.
It, however, lamented that human trafficking data remained scarce in Nigeria and that available information was not easily accessible to all stakeholders.

Explaining the way out, it stated, “NAPTIP, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria Immigration Service, is currently developing an Inter-Agency Data Exchange Protocol to facilitate rapid data sharing among relevant organisations.
It added, “Human trafficking ranks among the least reported crimes in Nigeria. Several factors contribute to this issue, including the coercive relationships between perpetrators and victims, which discourage victims and witnesses from reporting the crime.”
