Minors, others rescued after days in rough weather
Twenty two women, six children and six minors and 15 others have been rescued after going through four rigorous days in rough weather.
They were disembarked safely at Lampedusa, Resqship said.
Providing information about their predicament and eventual rescue, Resqship said: “Nadir found a steel boat with 49 people on board this morning. The freeboard was only a few centimetres and water was coming in through high waves. An immediate evacuation to the Nadir was necessary. The crew is now en route with the guests to the next safe harbour, Lampedusa.
“Last night all 49 people were disembarked safely in Lampedusa. Among them were 22 women, 6 children and 6 minors. They had survived at sea for over 4 days in rough weather, many had fuel burns and were in a very bad condition, but still showed great strength.”
While the above people were safety rescued and disembarked, Resqship told of a shipwreck that claimed the life of a two-year-old baby. “We are devastated to learn of a shipwreck of a boat near Lampedusa the same day. One 2-year-old child has been found dead, while 8 still missing. 42 people were rescued by 2 fishing vessels & a Coast Guard ship. We need legal flight routes to end this mass dying at sea!”
