UK asylum system musn’t be run for profit, Refugee Action, an organization that stands for refugees and people seeking asylum has said.

Refugee Action is currently calling on concerned groups and individuals to sign its petition against UK’s asylum policy.

The call read:

SIGN THE PETITION: the UK asylum system must not be run for profit
The asylum system should be there to make people safe, not to make rich people richer.

The levels of profit flowing into contractors from the asylum industry are scandalous. For too long, companies that treat people seeking safety awfully have been awarded massive public contracts, meaning massive payouts to their shareholders and senior staff.

It’s very simple. We need to see profit taken out of the equation and every penny of public money available to the refugee protection system spent on protecting refugees.

Sign our petition today in support of a non-profit asylum system.

Dear Home Secretary,

I am calling on you to create an asylum system run on these principles:

Not-for-profit

Uses public funds to improve services that all of us, including people seeking asylum, rely on

No person seeking safety is detained

Strengthens local authorities to ensure that every person seeking safety is housed in decent, community-based accommodation

Recognises everyone’s right to seek safety and to live in a community
