The United Kingdom has banned 50 hotels from taking asylum seekers beginning from next year.

The Home Office announced this today on its X handle.
The move is part of the UK step at cutting down irregular migration.

“Today we announced over 50 hotels will stop taking asylum seekers by January 2024 as the first phase of our hotel exits programme,” the Home Office said.

The UK government lead department for migration added that:”We can do this because our work to stop illegal migration is having a real impact: small boat crossings are down by more than 20% so far this year.

“There were 2,510 asylum decision makers in place at the end of August, meeting our target and an increase of more than 1,200 since December 2022.

“The asylum legacy backlog stood at 90,000 in December 2022 – but was down to 55,477 by August 2023.”
